Professional Color Correction In Premiere Pro

Here's a new piece on color correction by Rich Harrington of Layers Magazine.

Harrington wisely recommends white and black balancing using a calibration card as part of your shooting workflow. This also includes shooting some footage of the card in the same lighting setup you will use for your subject.

It's nice to see Premiere Pro garnering some attention in Layers Magazine. While Layers has always been great on the rest of the Adobe suite of programs, their attention to Premiere Pro has been pretty lean in the past.

New DVD Releases From Chris Marker

Too few of French documentarian, Chris Marker's works have been available on DVD until now. The Boston Globe reports four new discs will be released today.

Marker is best known for his cinema-essays, a form of documentary "consisting of the evolution of a theme or an idea rather than a plot per se; or the film literally being a cinematic accompaniment to a narrator reading an essay." (Taken from Wikipedia)
That sounds pretty dry, but Marker's films are beautiful, funny and smart.

Here's the trailer from Yannick Bellon and Chris Marker's documentary, Remembrance of Things to Come, which is included with the new releases.

Marker is celebrated as "the best-known author of unknown movies". These new DVD's should remedy the obscurity of these great films.

Happy Labor Day

Over the years there have been many fine documentaries which have examined class conflict and the rights of workers. Tom Zaniello's book, Working Stiffs, Union Maids, Reds, and Riffraff: An Expanded Guide to Films About Labor provides a comprehensive list of this wide range of films.

In the spirit of the day, here's the trailer from Barbara Kopple's Academy Award winning documentary, Harlan County USA.
