Shooting City Lights
In this video excerpt, film historian Hooman Mehran describes Charles Chaplin's perfectionism on the set of the classic film, City Lights (1931). Leading actress Virginia Cherrill endured 342 takes of this sequence over a two year period. Chaplin even complained that her "inflection was all wrong" even though City Lights is a silent film.
This clip is among the many extras included in Criterion's new, remastered dual format Blu-Ray/DVD release. Huzzah!
